Myhal Family Foundation
George and Rayla Myhal established the Myhal Family Foundation in 2014 as a not-for-profit company.

Our Commitment to Philanthropy
The Myhal family believes that it is very important to support the community in which we live and operate. Our philanthropic endeavors reflect a profound belief in advancing education, strengthening healthcare, nurturing social services, celebrating arts and culture, and supporting the Ukrainian-Canadian community.
Empowering Education & Innovation
Our support for educational institutions stems from a deep gratitude for the transformative power of learning and a conviction that it shapes our collective future. We strive to foster environments that enable world-class research, inspire collaboration, and equip future generations with the knowledge and skills to drive innovation.
The Foundation made a $10 million gift to the University of Toronto Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering to support the construction of the Myhal Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. George was a past member of the University’s Board of Governors for 9 years and chaired the Audit Committee. In addition, the Foundation has also funded two Chairs in Eastern European studies at the Munk School of Public Policy, as well as funding graduate student scholarships.

More recently, the Foundation made a $5 million gift to Niagara College to establish the Myhal Faculty of Nursing at the college’s Well and campus, and to fund student scholarships including a portion dedicated solely to Indigenous students.

Enhancing Healthcare & Community Well-being

We are committed to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and services, understanding their critical role in ensuring the well-being of individuals and communities. Our partnerships are designed to enhance access to exceptional care and inspire wider philanthropic engagement.
In this endeavor, the Foundation has made a $10.5 million gift to St Josephs Healthcare Centre to support the Oncology department and the Myhal Birthing Centre and a $5 million gift to Princess Margaret Hospital to name the Myhal Blood Collection Centre.

Community & Culture

Beyond specific sectors, our philanthropy extends to nurturing the fabric of communities and celebrating cultural heritage. We actively engage with and support various community groups and charitable organizations that enrich lives and address pressing social needs.

The Foundation is a supporter of The Royal Conservatory of Music and had made a $5 million gift to fund student scholarships and enhance academic programming. Rayla Myhal also serves on its Board of Directors as Vice-Chair.

The Foundation also provides support to the Canadian-Ukrainian community through a number of initiatives. The Foundation made a $6 million gift to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation to provide humanitarian support to Ukrainians in Canada and Ukraine who have been displaced in a time of war.
Rayla Myhal established The Tryzub Gala Foundation which, since 2019, has hosted an evening dinner gala to raise funds for the Canadian-Ukrainian community. This foundation raises approximately $500,000 annually which is then disbursed to a variety of Ukrainian community charities.
